The frequently asked questions here are:

Is J/Boats, Inc manufacturing its own boats?

NO.

They are following a business model in which they design and commercialize boats but do not manufacture them. All J/Boats are actually built by two licensed manufacturers (see: J/Factory): Pearson Composites, LLC in the USA and J/Europe in France.

The former builds most J/105s in the USA while the latter is more recent.

Is the jurisdiction of the US J/105 Class Association limited to the USA?

No. The J/105 Class Association has a Constitution that is clear on the subject in many articles and has been accepting worldwide members (J/105 owners) and collecting corresponding dues. The constitution is at : www.j105.org Constitution. The principal articles in that regard are:

2 a) To promote the building and racing of the J/105 as a strict one-design class throughout the world.

2 d) To maintain the worldwide one-design integrity and equality of performance of the J/105 while maximizing participation at J/105 events.

10.3 The Technical Committee shall cooperate with the Fleet measurers and licensed builders to protect the one-design character of the Class worldwide.

Does Chantecler conform to the US J/105 OD class as its equipment is from different suppliers than for US-built boats?

An explicit US certification has been requested and is in its last processing stage.

The class has equipment specifications that are met by more than one supplier and does not specify any specific supplier for any part.  All J/105s have been manufactured under the same specifications issued and enforced by J/Boats.

In accordance with Fleet 3 (Chesapeake) procedures, the boat has been weighted on the digital scale of Muller Marine and 247 lbs of lead have been added to bring the bare boat to the baseline of 8,580 lbs. A J/105 class floatation certificate has been issued 5/13/2005 for Fleet #3 racing with the proviso that national certification is pending ruling by national body for European mast.

On January 28, 2006, the J/105 Fleet #3 has passed a motion at its annual meeting grandfathering hull #536 into J/105 fleet racing.
